WordPress vs. Squarespace for Alabama Small Business

This comparison is written from the perspective of someone who builds on both platforms — not someone trying to sell you a template on either one. The right answer depends on what you're building and how much control you actually want.

Squarespace: The Case For

Squarespace is genuinely beautiful out of the box. The templates are well-designed, the hosting is included, and you can launch a professional-looking site in a few days without any technical knowledge. For a business that needs a simple online presence — a restaurant, a boutique, a solo service provider — Squarespace is a reasonable choice that won't embarrass you.

Squarespace: The Case Against

Squarespace's SEO capabilities are limited compared to WordPress. You have less control over technical SEO elements, page structure, and schema markup. For a local Alabama business trying to compete in Google search, this is a meaningful disadvantage. Squarespace also limits your options if your needs grow — you can't install arbitrary plugins, and customization beyond the template is difficult.

WordPress: The Case For

WordPress powers about 43% of the web for good reason. The SEO possibilities are extensive (especially with Yoast or Rank Math), the plugin ecosystem covers nearly any functionality you might need, and you own your site completely. A well-built WordPress site is faster, more flexible, and more powerful than an equivalent Squarespace site.

WordPress: The Case Against

WordPress requires maintenance. Plugin updates, security patches, backups, and occasional performance tuning. If you're not willing to handle this yourself or pay someone to handle it for you, a neglected WordPress site becomes a liability. Our Monthly Support plan exists specifically for this.

The Recommendation for Alabama Small Businesses

If you need a simple brochure site and have no plans to compete aggressively in local search: Squarespace is fine. If you want to rank on Google for service-related searches in your city, need more than five pages, or want a platform you can grow into: WordPress. We'll tell you honestly which one makes sense for your situation.
