The Brief
The Alabama Community College System's Economic Development Division needed a digital home for their workforce programs. They serve five major industry sectors — aerospace & aviation, advanced manufacturing, healthcare, construction, and information technology — and needed a site that could speak credibly to business partners, training participants, and legislators simultaneously.
What We Built
We built a custom HTML/CSS/JS site with five dedicated industry sector profiles, each with program overviews, workforce pipeline statistics, and contact pathways to the nearest community college. The hero section uses a looping YouTube API video that auto-plays without controls, creating a broadcast-quality feel without the infrastructure cost of self-hosted video.
The Technical Highlights
The YouTube API integration required custom JavaScript to handle autoplay restrictions across browsers, mute behavior, and seamless looping. We also built a dynamic college locator that maps all 24 community colleges to their respective regions and service sectors.
All five sector pages were built to a shared component system, making future updates straightforward for the EDD team without developer involvement.
The Result
The site launched on schedule and has been used as the primary digital presence for EDD outreach to Alabama businesses. The five sector pages have become reference links in proposal documents and legislative briefings.
