"Tampa Bay" is one nickname for several markets. Hillsborough County, Pinellas County, and Pasco County have different customers, different traffic patterns, and in some cases different rules. A Tampa website that ignores that tends to underperform, because customers in St. Petersburg are not searching for the same thing as customers in Brandon.
An honest note: Sparks Motion is a two-person studio in Montgomery, Alabama. We work with businesses across the Southeast remotely, by video, phone, and email. We do not have an office in Tampa, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. What we bring is real attention to how your market actually works.
The Bay area map
On the Tampa side, people search by South Tampa, Hyde Park, Seminole Heights, Ybor City, Channelside, Carrollwood, Brandon, Riverview, and Wesley Chapel in Pasco County. Across the bay in Pinellas County, it is St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Largo, Dunedin, and the beach communities. Getting between the two sides means bridges and causeways, so a Pinellas customer often really does want someone on their side of the water.
That is why a Tampa Bay service business usually does best with distinct pages for Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Clearwater at a minimum, each with some real local detail.
Tampa Bay facts worth knowing
- Ybor City was built around cigars. Vicente Martinez Ybor moved his cigar production from Key West to Tampa in the 1880s and built the neighborhood for his workers. By the 1940s there were about 10,000 cigar workers in 122 factories, and Ybor City is now a National Historic Landmark District
- MacDill Air Force Base is home to both U.S. Central Command and U.S. Special Operations Command
- Port Tampa Bay is Florida's largest port
- Gasparilla's 107th Invasion took place on January 31, 2026, with a children's parade a week earlier. It is one of the biggest days of the year for downtown restaurants, bars, and parking

Tampa right now: recent numbers
Figures from 2025 and 2026 reporting. Sources are linked, and numbers change, so check them before relying on any single figure.
- Tourism is at a record. Hillsborough County's taxable hotel revenue exceeded $1 billion for the fourth consecutive year in 2025, and March 2026 alone reached $134.5 million
- The port keeps growing. Port Tampa Bay handled 32 million tons of cargo in fiscal 2025, and container volume is up more than 300% since 2018 to nearly 263,000 TEUs
- Healthcare is the clearest growth driver. Education and health services added 7,500 jobs (3%) year over year through February 2026, while overall nonfarm employment dipped 0.3% and professional and business services lost 4,800 jobs
- A longer view: a CoworkingCafe study cited by the City of Tampa ranked it second among mid-sized U.S. cities for economic growth from 2019 to 2023, with the local economy up 43% and average paychecks up 38%
What it means for your website: A softer white-collar market means more businesses fighting for the same clients, so a clear site, fast pages, and good local search matter more than they did in the boom years. Healthcare, logistics, and tourism are where demand is strongest.

Industries we think about for Tampa Bay sites
- Healthcare and research. Tampa General, Moffitt Cancer Center, and the university medical campuses support a large web of practices and suppliers. Patients choose on trust and convenience, so provider bios, insurance information, and online scheduling matter
- Finance and professional services. Raymond James is based in St. Petersburg, and the area has a deep bench of financial advisors, accountants, and law firms. Credibility and clarity beat flash
- Marine and boating. Boat repair, marinas, charters, detailers, and marine suppliers serve a huge boating population. Visual proof of work, seasonal availability, and simple inquiry forms win jobs
- Defense and aerospace. MacDill Air Force Base hosts major commands, which supports contractors, consultants, and suppliers who sell on capability and compliance, with websites to match
- Hospitality and events. Gasparilla in January, Lightning and Buccaneers games, and a busy cruise and convention calendar create sharp demand peaks. Current hours and booking info are a must
Storm season and the Bay's recent history
Tampa Bay is low-lying and exposed. Recent storm seasons, including the 2024 hurricanes that brought surge and flooding to the area, are fresh for local customers. A business with a physical location needs the ability to post closures and reopenings fast. A restoration, roofing, or tree-service business needs emergency pages ready before storms, because that is when people search.
A bilingual market
The Tampa Bay area has long-standing Spanish-speaking communities, notably the Cuban heritage in Ybor City and West Tampa and a growing Latino population across the region. For businesses that serve them, a Spanish version of the key pages, written by a person who speaks the language, is a practical advantage and a sign of respect.
Mistakes we see on Tampa Bay business sites
- Treating Tampa and St. Petersburg as one market when customers see them as two sides of a bay
- Stock photos of generic Florida beaches instead of your own work
- No mention of storm response, even for businesses where it is the main reason customers call
- Key pages only in English in neighborhoods where many customers prefer Spanish
What we would look at first
- Which side of the bay your customers are on, and whether the site speaks to them
- Whether emergency or storm information can be posted quickly
- Whether a Spanish version of your most important pages would help
How we work with you from Montgomery
We start with a call about your business and your customers, send a plain-English plan with a written price, show you progress along the way, and keep your domain, hosting, and files in your name. Pricing starts at $199 and is on our services page. If you already have a site that is broken or outdated, a free diagnostic is a good place to start, and our guide to redesigning versus repairing explains the decision.

Common questions
Q: Do Tampa and St. Petersburg need different pages?
If you serve both, yes. They are different markets across the water, and customers on each side prefer someone who clearly works there.
Q: Is a Spanish version of the site worth it?
For many Tampa Bay businesses, yes, especially in service categories where trust matters. The translation needs to be done by a fluent person, not a tool.
Q: Do you have an office in Tampa?
No. We are based in Montgomery, Alabama and work with clients across the Southeast remotely. If a meeting would help, we can talk about it.
